PSPHASE - DX7 Patch Compatible 6 OP MIDI Phase Engine for PSP - App - (0.9.4b) - (08/24/2026)

$12.00

PSPHASE is a DX7-compatible FM synthesizer for the Sony PSP -- the six operator phase engine, built for the PSP-MIDI adapter. Connect the adapter to the PSP's USB port, plug in a MIDI keyboard, and the PSP is a 16-voice FM module.

Features:

  • 16 voices, 6 operators, all 32 DX7 algorithms
  • 4-part multitimbral: a MIDI channel per part, each with its own patch, bend, wheel, sustain and mono/portamento -- keys, bass, lead and pad from one DAW session, sharing one dynamic voice pool
  • Loads DX7 patch banks: drop .syx files in the BANKS folder or send a bulk dump over MIDI from any DX7 librarian. Raw 4096-byte and 4104-byte sysex cartridge formats, checksum tolerant. Thousands of banks on the internet load as-is.
  • PHASE1: an original 32-voice bank included -- keys, basses, bells, organs, brass, strings, pads, leads
  • Live ALGO view: carriers, modulator stacks, the feedback loop, and per-operator levels and ratios for the playing patch
  • 32-patch grid with live names, instant program change
  • Pitch bend (range 0 to 12 semitones, RPN 0 supported), mod wheel vibrato, sustain pedal, mono mode with last-note priority and portamento, cutoff and resonance on a ladder filter
  • On-board patch editor: operator levels, ratios, envelopes, algorithm, feedback and LFO, edited live while you play -- save your voices to a user bank on the Memory Stick
  • Single-voice sysex receive for patch editors
  • Stereo FX rack: shared reverb and Juno-style chorus on send buses (CC91/CC93) -- the E.PIANO-through-chorus sound out of the box
  • MIDI thru for chaining hardware from the adapter's TRS OUT jack
  • 44100 Hz output, 3 to 5 ms typical MIDI latency
  • 6 panel themes, settings remembered between sessions.

The engine is a port of Google's open-source music synthesizer core (Apache-2.0), the same family used by Dexed and MiniDexed -- with the PSP's screen doing what a character LCD cannot.

Requirements: PSP 1000, 2000 or 3000 with custom firmware, and the PSP-MIDI adapter. The PSP Go is not supported.

Included: EBOOT.PBP, usbmidi.prx, MANUAL.txt, BANKS/PHASE1.SYX.

Install by copying the PSPHASE folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME/.
